About the Course

What is mental health first aid?
Mental health first aid is the help given to someone developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

About the “Mental Health First Aider – Step One” webinar

Specifically, participants learn:

  • The potential risk factors and warning signs of a range of mental health problems including: depression, anxiety/trauma, psychosis, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and self-injury
  • An understanding of the prevalence of various mental health disorders and the need for reduced stigma in their communities
  • An action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to assess the situation, to select and implement appropriate interventions, and to help the individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional care
  • The evidence-based professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available to help someone with a mental health problem

The following mental health problems are covered:

  • Mood disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Psychosis
  • Substance Use Disorder

The following mental health crisis situations are covered:

  • Suicidal behavior
  • Overdoses
  • Panic Attacks
  • Reactions to traumatic events
  • Psychotic episodes
  • Relationship Issues

Course Format

Offline and online mode of training with voice assisted Powerpoint presentations and a manual provided at the start of the course. The participant will have a week’s time to master one particular module of the course and he/she can contact the trainer either through email/ chat or video chat for any clarifications.

Each module will have its own activity and a pragmatic paper for better understanding.
